Trump Orders Declassification of JFK, RFK, and MLK Assassination Records

President Donald Trump signed an executive order to declassify and release remaining federal records related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy (1963), Senator Robert F. Kennedy (1968), and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. (1968). This move aims to provide transparency and address decades of conspiracy theories surrounding the deaths of these prominent figures.
Trump emphasized that releasing these files would serve the national interest, saying, “Everything will be revealed… The American people deserve transparency and truth.”
The King family, upon learning of the executive order, expressed hope they could review the records privately before their public release. King, assassinated in 1968, was killed after a decade of political and civil rights-related assassinations, including the Kennedys and Medgar Evers. James Earl Ray, convicted for King’s murder, always maintained his innocence, and several investigations have suggested a broader conspiracy.
While historians are skeptical about dramatic revelations, they remain curious about potential new details, especially regarding confidential informants or hidden government involvement.
The executive order stipulates that JFK records should be released within 15 days, and records for RFK and MLK within 45 days. Trump described this as a long-awaited step in unveiling the truth.
