As citizens of Cobb and other metro communities are trying to figure out their property taxes, Mableton citizens are getting a huge reprieve, thanks to the new Mayor and City Council.
Mayor Micahel Owens released a statement that the new city has notified the Cobb County government that it has elected not to set a millage rate this year.
With this move, Mableton is the only city within Cobb County that will not levy property taxes on its citizens. Owens’ notice was sent to Cobb County Tax Commissioner Carla Jackson and Stephen White, the chief appraiser of the Cobb County Board of Tax Assessors.
In his release, Mayor Owens said the joint decision by his office and the members of the Mableton City Council underscores their commitment to protect the financial well-being of its citizens and to work together effectively to achieve this goal. He also pointed to campaign promises that both he and members of the City Council made earlier this year when they were candidates.
