Stockbridge Names Orrin Scott Hamilton as New Police Chief

Share

Stockbridge, GA – The City of Stockbridge has appointed Orrin Scott Hamilton as its new police chief, marking a historic milestone as he becomes the first African-American to hold the position in the city’s history. Hamilton was officially sworn in on April 15, 2026, at City Hall Council Chambers.

Hamilton succeeds former Chief Frank Trammer, who served as the city’s inaugural police chief and was credited with helping reduce crime during his tenure.

With more than 30 years of law enforcement experience, Hamilton brings a long record of leadership at both the local and county level. He previously served as Deputy Chief of the Cobb County Police Department for 27 years and was also appointed police chief in Austell in 2022, where he became the city’s first Black police chief.

During his career, Hamilton has been recognized for efforts to modernize public safety operations, including improvements to 911 coordination, expanded officer training, upgraded technology systems, and the implementation of officer wellness programs.

Hamilton holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Saint Leo University and a Bachelor of Science from Cumberland College. He now takes over leadership of the Stockbridge Police Department as the city looks to continue building on its public safety initiatives.
