Thousands of people who hold Delta Sky- Miles American Express credit cards soon will be hit with higher annual fees. Delta and American Express announced Thursday that credit cardholders will experience increased annual fees starting May 1. The fee adjustments are as follows:
- Delta SkyMiles American Express Gold card: From $99 to $150 annually
- Delta SkyMiles American Express Platinum card: From $250 to $350 annually
- Delta SkyMiles American Express Reserve card: From $550 to $650 annually
These changes apply to cardholders renewing their memberships on or after May 1. The fee increases come after Delta raised elite status thresholds, which had upset some frequent fliers. However, alongside the fee hikes, Delta and American Express are introducing some additional benefits.
One significant change is an enhanced companion certificate, allowing cardholders to bring a companion for free on a roundtrip flight to Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and within the continental U.S.
Platinum and Reserve cardholders will also receive 2,500 Medallion Qualifying Dollars (MQDs) to help reach elite frequent flyer status. This is half of the MQDs required for Silver status.
Despite the fee increases, Delta says it aims to retain and attract customers with these added benefits, reinforcing its lucrative partnership with American Express.
