Six Flags new rules for visitors under 15, Chaperones required

Share

Following recent incidents and citing safety concerns for both guests and employees, Six Flags Over Georgia has introduced new rules for visitors under 15 years of age. Starting last week, younger guests must have a chaperone after 4 p.m. when visiting the amusement park.

While the park did not cite a specific incident, various events have prompted concern. On opening day in March, gunfire and fighting disrupted the park’s activities. A 15-year-old boy was critically injured and charged after being shot by Cobb police during an exchange of gunfire outside the park. Cobb police were called to assist Six Flags security with an “unruly crowd” that grew to about 600 people running through the park and fighting.

Following this incident, Mableton Mayor Michael Owens convened a meeting and press conference with Six Flags, Cobb public safety officials, and community leaders to discuss ways to prevent crime in the park.

In announcing the new policy, park officials stated, “The safety of our guests and team members has always been our top priority at Six Flags Over Georgia. Our guests expect and deserve a safe, family-friendly atmosphere when they visit Six Flags Over Georgia. As we approach our busiest time of the year, Six Flags Over Georgia and Six Flags Entertainment Company are taking additional measures to meet that expectation.”

Six Flags joins other theme parks across the country, including Walt Disney World, in implementing increased security measures.

Under the new policy:

  • All guests aged 15 and younger must be accompanied by a chaperone who is at least 21 years old to be admitted to or remain in the park after 4 p.m.
  • The chaperone must present a valid government-issued photo ID with a date of birth at ticket entry.
  • One chaperone may accompany no more than 10 guests aged 15 or younger per day.
  • The chaperone must remain in the park and be available by phone.
  • Young guests without a chaperone will be asked to leave.
  • This rule applies to season ticket holders as well.

Six Flags officials encourage guests to review the park’s online safety policies when planning their visit. In a statement, they said, “We are continually evaluating our safety policies and will make adjustments based on the needs and behaviors we observe in the park. This policy aims to ensure all guests have a fun and enjoyable experience and leave eager to return.”
