Atlanta, GA – Community leader and Spotlight South Cobb News Publisher Shelia Edwards was recently honored with the prestigious Nikki T. Randall Yellow Rose Award in recognition of her outstanding service and dedication to the South Cobb and metro Atlanta communities.
The award was presented during the 11th Annual Yellow Rose Ceremony hosted by the Georgia Women’s Legislative Caucus, a bipartisan, bicameral organization within the Georgia General Assembly that celebrates women who demonstrate exceptional leadership and service in their communities.|
Edwards was nominated for the honor by State Representative Terry Cummings, who represents District 39. The Yellow Rose Award is presented annually to women across Georgia who have made significant contributions to their communities, regardless of political affiliation.

“Shelia Edwards exemplifies servant leadership,” said Rep. Cummings. “Her commitment to uplifting the South Cobb community and empowering residents to stand together for the betterment of our neighborhoods is truly inspiring.”
Edwards was recognized for her tireless advocacy and community organizing efforts. She is an active member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. – Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. – MRAC Chapter, and the Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership, Inc. – CLI Team. Throughout her career, she has championed quality-of-life issues and promoted economically smart, sustainable development in her community. She is widely known for leading a grassroots effort to protect her neighborhood from an environmentally harmful project that threatened to bring significant waste operations into the area. Drawing on her extensive experience at the local, state, and federal levels of government, Edwards successfully mobilized residents, educated neighbors, and organized a unified community response. Through her leadership and the collective voice of the community, the effort successfully prevented a waste company from bringing 50 tons of waste into the area, reinforcing the importance of responsible development and environmental stewardship.
Edwards is also a candidate in the May 19th Primary for the Georgia Public Service Commission, where she has pledged to fight for Georgia ratepayers and ensure greater accountability in the state’s utility regulatory process. She is committed to protecting families and small businesses from excessive utility rate increases, which she says have too often been “rubber-stamped” by members of the commission. Her campaign emphasizes transparency, consumer protection, and fairness, with a focus on ensuring that Georgia residents are not burdened with unjust energy costs.
“Receiving the Nikki T. Randall Yellow Rose Award is a tremendous honor,” Edwards said. “It reflects the power of community voices coming together with purpose. The same determination that helped protect my neighborhood is what drives me to stand up for Georgia ratepayers. Whether it’s fighting for environmental stewardship or fair utility rates, I am committed to ensuring our communities are heard and protected.”
The Yellow Rose Ceremony celebrates extraordinary women from across Georgia who are leading with purpose, serving others, and making a lasting impact in their communities.
