ATLANTA, GA — Shelia Edwards, Democratic candidate for the Georgia Public Service Commission (District 5), issued the following statement on the passing of her former boss, Congressman David Scott.

Working alongside him, I saw firsthand his deep commitment to the people of Georgia. He led with conviction, compassion, and an unwavering belief that government should work for everyday people. He demanded excellence, but he also gave guidance, support, and opportunity—something I will always carry with me.
I extend my deepest condolences to his wife, Alfreda, his children, Dayna and Marcye, his son-in-law Kwame, and his grandchildren, Kimani and Kaylin. I know how much he loved his family, and how proud he was of them, and how proud they were of him.
Congressman Scott’s legacy is not just in the laws he helped pass, but in the people he uplifted and the lives he changed—including mine. I am grateful for the time I had to learn from him, and I will continue that work in his honor. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.”
Scott passed away today at his home in Washington, DC. He was 80 years old and had served in Georgia politics for over 50 years.
