The Cobb County Water System has reported another sewage overflow incident, this occurrence estimating approximately 80 gallons of wastewater spilled on April 12th. The overflow took place at 1475 Hembree Station Drive in Marietta, discharging into a tributary of Sewell Mill Creek.
Notification of the overflow was received by the Water System at 8:05 a.m. on April 12th, with containment achieved by 8:45 a.m. Upon arrival at the scene, Water System employees noted sewage spilling from a manhole, despite the lid being secured. This resulted in a 5-foot by 10-foot area affected, leading into the tributary.
To address the situation, the crew utilized a jet machine to clear the sewer line blockage and applied lime to the affected area for mitigation. Despite the overflow, no fish kills were observed during the crew’s presence at the site.
For individuals seeking further information, the Cobb County Water System’s Maintenance Division can be reached at 770-419-6351.
Officials are testing the water at Lake Acworth after a sewage spill on Friday. The County did not advise on the amount of the spill but says it was “well below” the Georgia Environmental Protection Divisions’ 10,000-gallon definition of a “major spill”. The spill was blamed on high winds that caused a tree to hit an above-ground sewer line, impacting a creek that feeds into the lake. Crews made temporary repairs to the pipe, but officials are warning the public to stay away from the lake until the test results come back.
