Senior Georgia Judge Arrested for DUI After Fender-Bender at Florida Strip Club

One of Georgia’s most senior judges, Robert “Bert” Guy Jr., 48, was arrested early Tuesday morning for allegedly driving under the influence following a fender-bender outside a Jacksonville strip club named Wacko’s.

According to the arrest report, Guy backed his Mercedes-Benz into a Ford F-150 in the club’s parking lot around 3 a.m., then reportedly offered the other driver $500 to avoid exchanging information, citing his powerful position.

When authorities arrived, a valet told police that Guy attempted to drive away but “was unable to do so as he appeared highly intoxicated.” Staff at the club reportedly escorted him back inside and monitored him until law enforcement arrived. Officers noted that Guy smelled strongly of alcohol, appeared confused, and was slurring his words.

The judge repeatedly refused to hand over his ID and claimed he did not have his keys, according to the affidavit. He was arrested at the scene and charged with DUI, DUI-property damage, and failing to submit to a breathalyzer test, according to jail records. Guy was released on a $3,000 bond.

Following the arrest, Guy self-reported to Georgia’s Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQC) and resigned on Friday as President of Georgia’s Council of Superior Court Judges, effective immediately. In a statement, he said: “It has been a distinct honor and privilege to serve the Council of Superior Court Judges as President and in other roles; however, today I am resigning effectively immediately as Council President.”

His attorney, Lester Tate, described the incident as arising from “a minor fender-bender in the parking lot” and expressed hope the matter can be resolved.

Guy, who presides over cases in the five-county Brunswick Judicial Circuit, was first elected to the Superior Court in 2016 and took the bench in 2017.
