East Cobb Lawmaker Recognized for Continued Service in 132nd Medical Battalion

State Senator Kay Kirkpatrick (R-East Cobb) has been promoted to the rank of Major in the Georgia State Defense Force (GSDF), marking a significant milestone in her ongoing commitment to public service—both in the legislature and on the frontlines of emergency support.

Kirkpatrick, a board-certified orthopedic hand surgeon with over 30 years of medical experience, announced the promotion following a special ceremony recently held which featured remarks from Maj. Gen. Richard D. Wilson, the Adjutant General of Georgia, who praised Kirkpatrick and others for their dedication and service.

“Proud to serve in this volunteer group that supports the Georgia National Guard as part of the 132nd Medical Unit,” Kirkpatrick wrote.

The Georgia State Defense Force is a volunteer component of the Georgia Department of Defense, charged with assisting state and local agencies during emergencies to ensure the safety and welfare of Georgia residents. Members of the GSDF provide critical medical, logistical, and security support during natural disasters, public health crises, and other state emergencies.

Kirkpatrick has proudly served in the 132nd Medical Battalion for the past three years, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to supporting Georgia’s emergency response infrastructure. Her dual roles as a state lawmaker and medical officer reflect her deep dedication to both policymaking and hands-on service.

“Major Kirkpatrick continues to lead by example,” a colleague noted. “Whether it’s in the State Capitol or in the field with the GSDF, she remains committed to the well-being of Georgians.”

As a legislator, Sen. Kirkpatrick represents District 32, covering portions of East Cobb and Sandy Springs. She has championed legislation focused on health care, public safety, and veterans’ affairs.
