Runoff Election Set for Georgia Senate District 35 — Tuesday, December 16, 2025

Share

COBB & FULTON COUNTIES, Ga. — Voters in Senate District 35 will head back to the polls on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, for a runoff election to determine who will fill the State Senate seat left vacant by the resignation of Jason Esteves earlier this year. This runoff election is for voters in District 35 only.

No candidate secured the necessary majority in the November 18 special election, triggering the runoff. Two Democrats — Roger Bruce, a retired longtime state representative, and Jaha Howard, a former Cobb County Board of Education member and local dentist — emerged as the top vote‑getters and will face off in the December contest.

Advance voting for the runoff has already begun in parts of Fulton and Cobb counties, with early ballots cast at locations such as the C.T. Martin Recreation Center and the Smyrna Community Center through December 12. Polls will be open on election day, December 16, with in‑person voting available at assigned precincts from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The winner will complete the remainder of the term, representing a district that stretches across portions of both counties and includes diverse communities such as Atlanta, Smyrna, and South Fulton. This runoff underscores how competitive races in Georgia’s metro areas can become when multiple candidates split the vote in crowded fields.

Voters are reminded to check their registration status, plan their voting locations, and participate in what many see as an important decision ahead of the next legislative session.

Please be reminded that this runoff election is for voters in District 35 only.
