The Atlanta Falcons’ new head coach, Raheem Morris, who once occupied the Falcons’ top spot on an interim basis, is now the ‘head man in charge.’
Morris, who previously served as interim head coach during the 2020 season, understands the significance of being named the first Black head coach for the Falcons, acknowledging Atlanta as “The Mecca of Black history.”
During a recent press conference, Morris expressed his excitement about returning to Atlanta, calling it “coming home.” Morris emphasized his gratitude for the nod as he acknowledged the importance of family, thanking his wife, daughters, son, and parents.
Despite Morris’s overall coaching record, including a stint as the head coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009-2011, where he achieved a 10-6 season, he is determined to instill a winning culture with the Falcons. Morris emphasized his commitment to winning football games and creating a positive atmosphere.
Morris expressed enthusiasm about working closely with Falcons’ general manager, Fontenot. Both leaders shared their close bond during the interview process, and Fontenot, in his role as the first Black general manager for the Falcons, expressed confidence in their partnership.
As the Falcons prepare for the NFL draft, Morris and Fontenot are focused on the team’s success, with Fontenot stating their goal is to secure another Super Bowl victory for Morris, who previously won a ring as a member of the Los Angeles Rams staff.
Despite the team’s six consecutive seasons without making the playoffs, Morris is determined to lead the Falcons to success and build strong connections within the community.
