What started out as a routine traffic stop in Acworth turned into a chase, search, and arrest of a Kennesaw man wanted for multiple felonies.
Acworth police say that Youssef Amer was arrested after leading police on a chase on Tuesday, July 25.
Amer, 25, was stopped by police around 2:55 p.m. on the city’s Main Street after a traffic camera indicated Amer lacked insurance and registration for his vehicle.
After the stop, police learned Amer was wanted for multiple serious offenses, including aggravated assault in the Roswell Police Department jurisdiction and a probation violation related to an armed robbery and aggravated battery. At some point, Amer fled the scene.
Officers set up a perimeter and after an extensive search, Acworth officers, with assistance from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit and the Kennesaw Police Department, successfully located and apprehended Amer.
Amer was in possession of a large quantity of marijuana and THC oil when he was apprehended, said police.
In addition to the outstanding charges, Amer is accused of possessing more than an ounce of marijuana, driving without registration and insurance, and obstructing an officer.
Amer is being held at the Cobb jail without bond.
