Philadelphia Eagles and QB Jalen Hurts top Chiefs to win Super Bowl with a score of 40 to 22

The Philadelphia Eagles secured their second Super Bowl title in franchise history with a commanding 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, denying the Chiefs a historic third consecutive championship. This victory marked a redemption moment for quarterback Jalen Hurts and head coach Nick Sirianni, who had come up short in Super Bowl LVII against the same Chiefs.

The win was powered by an outstanding performance from the Eagles’ defense, which held the Chiefs to just 225 total yards and forced three turnovers, including a crucial second-quarter interception by Cooper DeJean that he returned for a touchdown. Hurts’ performance was the centerpiece, as he was named Super Bowl MVP for his efficient and dynamic play.

Hurts completed 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns, while also setting a Super Bowl record for rushing yards by a quarterback, with 72 yards and an additional rushing touchdown. His leadership and poise throughout the game were evident, as he led the Eagles to their second-ever Super Bowl title.

This win is particularly sweet for Hurts, who was exceptional in the 2023 Super Bowl, despite a loss to the Chiefs. In that game, Hurts threw for 304 yards, added a touchdown, and rushed for three more touchdowns in a near-miss loss. His performance in Super Bowl LVII solidified his status as one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks.

Hurts’ journey to superstardom is a remarkable one, as it included a transfer from Alabama to Oklahoma for his senior season after he lost his starting position to Tua Tagovailoa, who is currently Miami’s starting quarterback. At Oklahoma, Hurts led the Sooners to the College Football Playoff and finished second in Heisman Trophy voting. His NFL career has already seen two Super Bowl appearances, one win, and an MVP award. Hurts also finished as the MVP runner-up for the 2022-23 season and earned second-team All-Pro honors.

The Eagles’ Super Bowl win, combined with Hurts’ spectacular individual performance, finally broke the usually composed quarterback’s calm demeanor, as he cracked a rare smile following his team’s incredible win over the Chiefs.

Hurts was named the Super Bowl MVP on Sunday after the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in New Orleans, denying the Chiefs a three-peat.

“I couldn’t do any of these things without the guys around me,” Hurts said on the Fox broadcast postgame. “We had a special group this year. We were able to learn from the past and get some nice new pieces and get over that hump.”Hurts was incredibly efficient in the Eagles’ win, as he completed 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards with two touchdowns to an interception, while rushing for a team-leading 72 yards and another score on 11 carries.

The 26-year-old quarterback got his revenge from 2023, when the Chiefs defeated Hurts and the Eagles 38-35 in Super Bowl 57. Hurts and his Eagles teammates began scoring and never looked back. The rest is history…Super Bowl History.
