Students skipping school on what is known as Skip Day resulted in a Pebblebrook High School student winding up in the hospital after he was injured in a shooting at Nickajack Park.

Police say that a group of students from multiple Cobb high schools skipped school and met at the park. By the time police arrived on the scene around 3 p.m., the injured student had already been transported to Grady Hospital in Atlanta.

The student’s condition is unknown. Cobb police spokesperson Sgt. Wayne Delk said the department’s Major Crimes Unit is still investigating the shooting and no arrests have been made in the case.

No details were shared about the student or suspected shooter.

Cobb County Schools issued a statement confirming that the student who was injured went to Pebblebrook High School.

“A large group of students skipped school and met at Nickajack Park when a shooting occurred,” officials said. “A Pebblebrook student was injured and transported to a local hospital. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. The District is cooperating with this criminal investigation.”
