The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter, is hosting their 27th Annual Unsung Heroines Awards Gala entitled “Leading Legacy: Shining Bright Through Generations” on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at the Whitley Hotel, located in Buckhead, at 3434 Peachtree Road Northeast, Atlanta, GA 30326.

The Unsung Heroines Awards Gala, which began in 1997, serves as an invaluable opportunity to honor Black women in our community who tirelessly empower others in crucial areas such as education, health, politics, civic responsibility, business, and entertainment. For over 27 years, the organization has been at the forefront of acknowledging these women for their selfless dedication and contributions. The 2024 Unsung Heroine honorees include:

Catalyst Award: Dr. Monica Wills Brown
Humanitarian Award: Eslene Richmond-Shockley
Millennial Award: Stacey Chavis
Pioneer Award: Roselyn Lewis
Trailblazer Award: Eulonda Washington
Unsung Heroines Award: Gabrielle Dillard, Temple Lester, and Cameryn Polk
Presidential Award: Sgt. Breonna Moffett (posthumously), Sgt. Kennedy Sanders (posthumously), and Staff Sgt. William Rivers (posthumously)

In the wake of a drone attack that took their lives on January 28, the U.S. Army Reserve posthumously promoted Spc. Sanders and Spc. Moffett to the rank of Sergeant, while Sgt. William Rivers was promoted to Staff Sergeant.

With preparations for the Unsung Heroines Gala underway, President Belinda Walker expressed her delight and honor in leading the celebration of this year’s honorees, stating, “I take great pride in our organization’s continued efforts to celebrate women in our community for their courage, tenacity, and accomplishments. Despite the invaluable contributions and tireless efforts that they make on a day-to-day basis to our community, they often go unrecognized. As an organization, we want to say we see you; we recognize you; and we honor you for your selfless contributions to make the world a better place, not only for yourselves, but for others. You are remarkable individuals, and we take pride in leading the efforts to recognize and honor you.”

The public is warmly invited to attend this special event that will include an unforgettable evening filled with joy and celebration of our community heroines.

Mark your calendars now for the Unsung Heroines Gala on Saturday, May 18, 2024. The cocktail/silent auction begins at 6:00 p.m., and the awards program begins at 7:00 p.m.

About the Unsung Heroines Awards Gala

The Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., conceived the Unsung Heroines Awards Gala in 1997 as an opportunity to recognize African American women. The awards are presented to women in our community who work tirelessly to empower their community in vital areas such as education, health, politics, civic responsibility, business, and entertainment. These women labor tirelessly without recognition. The women honored are nominated by their peers and voted on by an independent panel. Proceeds from this event will benefit the organization’s Economic Empowerment Programs, which provide transitional support services to women and children who need a helping hand as they transition from dependency to self-sufficiency.
