Memorial Day observances around South Cobb

Memorial Day is the American holiday that honors the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971.

Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials and holding family gatherings.

The Smyrna Community Memorial Day Ceremony will be May 29 at 9:30 a.m. at the Twentieth Century Veterans Memorial, 2800 King Street SE in Smyrna.

In case of inclement weather, the Ceremony will be held in the Smyrna Community Center. and participating in parades. Two Memorial Day ceremonies are planned in the South Cobb area.
