Marietta man injured in crash after fleeing from police

Share

A Marietta man, Carlos Juarez, was seriously injured after crashing into a tree while fleeing from police.

According to the Cobb County Police Department, the incident occurred shortly after midnight on a Sunday.

Juarez, 21, attempted to evade a traffic stop on Powder Springs Road when the crash took place.

Reportedly, he was traveling at a high rate of speed, and his vehicle veered off the road, driving onto the grass before colliding with a tree on Milford Church Road near Smitha Middle School.

The Cobb County Police Department operates under a no-chase policy, meaning that officers are discouraged from engaging in high-speed vehicle pursuits.

In this case, it appears that the officer did not initiate a chase but was able to respond to the crash immediately.

Juarez was subsequently transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital to receive treatment for the serious injuries he sustained.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing. Police request anyone with additional information related to the incident to contact investigators at 770-499-3987.
