Marietta man sentenced to life in prison for child molestation

Cobb County District Attorney Flynn Broady, Jr. announced that a Marietta man, John Galczynski, has been sentenced to life in prison, plus 69 additional years, for child molestation. 

A Cobb County jury returned a guilty verdict, finding Galczynski, 68, guilty of rape and child molestation. Galczynsk received a life sentence, with additional years and one year of probation.

Cobb County Police Department’s Special Victims Unit learned on Feb. 1, 2021, that a minor had disclosed a sexual assault to her therapist. the child Later told detectives that Galczynski had repeatedly raped her for years, beginning when she was five years old. 


Cobb Assistant District Attorney Lindsay Rayner, who prosecuted the case, said “This child gave powerful testimony at trial which allowed the jury to see the pattern of abuse and hold Mr. Galczynski accountable for his crimes,”


The DA’s office credited K-9 Rose, the office’s comfort dog, and handler Angela Thorne with calming the victim and helping her as she prepared for trial. 

A second victim of Galczynski also testified before the jury that he raped her beginning when she was 11 and did so repeatedly until she was 19 years old.

Raynor said, “The hard work of law enforcement, SafePath Children’s Advocacy Center, and this jury ensured this predator cannot victimize any more children.”
