Cobb County District Attorney Flynn Broady Jr. announced that an Acworth man, Arthur Lee Milsap, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for shooting his cousin at a senior living complex in 2022.
Milsap, 48, was on probation when he shot his cousin at the Peachstone Independent Senior Living Apartments near Dobbins Air Reserve Base. Milsap pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Cobb County police responded on June 5, 2022, to a shooting at the apartments and located the victim, who had been shot in both legs.
The victim identified his cousin, Milsap, as the shooter. During their investigation, police learned that Milsap, who frequently visited the complex, had argued with another resident and his cousin earlier in the day.
According to the DA’s office, Milsap left the property and later returned. He called out to his cousin and shot him when he came outside.
Witnesses told police they saw a man driving away in a white truck. Using FLOCK license plate readers, Milsap was quickly identified as the owner of the white truck. Milsap was arrested at his residence by Cherokee County officers.
Milsap was sentenced by Cobb Superior Court Judge Vic Reynolds to 25 years, 12 of which must be served in prison.
He will not be eligible for parole. On the sentencing, DA Broady said.“This office will continue to be tough on crime. We are committed to doing all we can to keep our community safe.”
