Share

Marietta resident Marcus Goncalves has been arrested several days after he allegedly was driving recklessly causing a motorcycle-riding father and daughter to be hospitalized.

The victims, Jesse Hughen, 44, and his nine-year-old daughter were both rushed to the hospital Saturday afternoon after Goncalves allegedly drove into the path of their Harley Davidson motorcycle as they headed west on Delk Road.

For unknown reasons, police say  Goncalves turned out of the turn lane he was in and back into the westbound traffic lanes. Goncalves’ car entered the path of Hughen’s Harley. Upon hitting the car, Hughen and his daughter were thrown from the bike. Hughen was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, while his daughter was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Goncalves, 38, faces several misdemeanors and two felony charges of serious injury by vehicle including making an improper lane change, disregarding a traffic control device, making an improper lane change without a signal, failing to obtain a Georgia driver’s license, reckless driving, making an improper turn, and two counts of serious injury by vehicle.

Goncalves is currently being held at the Cobb County jail without bond.
