Share

Three metro Atlanta Macy’s locations are among the 66 stores the retailer announced will close as part of its ongoing restructuring plan. The closures include both the Macy’s department store and furniture store at Gwinnett Place Mall, as well as the Johns Creek Town Center location in Suwanee.

According to the company’s website.Macy’s currently operates 22 locations in Georgia,

Unveiled in February, these closures are part of Macy’s broader “Bold New Chapter” business turnaround initiative, which intends to close approximately 150 underperforming stores over two years.

Closing of the struggling Gwinnett Place Mall closures was anticipated, as the county has been working on redeveloping the space. Last year, Macy’s sold its store locations at Gwinnett Place to Gwinnett County for over $16 million, with the county leasing the spaces back to Macy’s. At that time, Gwinnett officials indicated that the lease would end early in 2025, leading to the store closures. While exact closure dates have not been provided, Macy’s said most of the impacted locations will shut their doors by the end of March.
