Cobb County police shot and killed a man who was allegedly firing a gun at family members inside a home in Mableton.
The Cobb County Police Department received a 911 call at 11:38 a.m. on Saturday from a resident at 4683 Heritage Lakes Court in the Heritage Lake Subdivision in Mableton about a domestic dispute. The caller told 911 dispatchers that the man, later identified as Cesar Anthony Pena, was shooting a firearm inside the house.
Officers responding to the call heard gunshots from inside the home and called SWAT team members. Shortly afterward, Pena stepped outside onto the front porch with a shotgun and was shot by two officers. Pena, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured.
The Cobb County Police Department has requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the report will be turned over to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
Since the start of 2022, this is the 58th officer-involved shooting the GBI has been requested to investigate.
