Mableton head-on car crash claims life of Alpharetta man

Cobb County police say an Alpharetta man died after a head-on collision in Mableton when his vehicle was hit head-on on Fontaine Road near Floyd Road. 

According to police, Baraa Abdulmonem, 22, was driving eastbound along Fontaine Road, east of Floyd Road, when a Nissan Maxima driven westbound on Fontaine Road by Eugenia Lawrence, 36, collided with Abdulmonem’s vehicle at 3:41 p.m. Thursday.

Abdulmonem was transported from the scene by ambulance with life-threatening injuries to Wellstar Cobb Hospital. 

Police say that Abdulmonem later died from his injuries while in the hospital. Police notified his next of kin of his death.  

Lawrence was also transported to Wellstar Cobb Hospital with minor injuries.

Police are uncertain as to why Lawrence failed to maintain his vehicle in its lane and continue to investigate the collision. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the Cobb County Police Department’s STEP Unit at 770-499-3987.
