A Devoted Public Servant

A heartfelt tree dedication ceremony was recently held at the Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center to honor the life and legacy of Lee Ann Tanks, a devoted public servant and beloved member of the Cobb County community. Born September 14, 1968, Lee Ann transitioned on June 7, 2025.
Hosted by the Cobb Library Foundation, the ceremony featured the planting of a Cherokee Brave dogwood tree—a living tribute symbolizing strength, courage, and grace.

Lee Ann, the late wife of Mableton City Manager William “Bill” Tanks, dedicated over 20 years to public safety, serving as both a 911 dispatcher and a fire investigator technician with the Cobb Fire Marshal’s Office. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, integrity, and quiet strength. Bill Tanks, who serves as treasurer of the Cobb Library Foundation, was joined by family, friends, and community members in celebrating her life.
“She lived with love and served with dignity,” said Cobb Library spokesperson Slone Williams, noting that the tree was planted “to honor Lee Ann as she lived — and as she wished to be remembered.”
Now rooted at the heart of the Sewell Mill Library grounds, the memorial tree offers a peaceful space for reflection, ensuring that her spirit and values continue to inspire the community she so dearly loved.
