Investigation Leads to Arrest of Contract Nurse at Fulton County Jail

Share

ATLANTA. GA — An internal investigation at the Fulton County Jail has resulted in the arrest of a contract nurse accused of violating jail policies by engaging in an inappropriate relationship with an inmate and introducing contraband into the facility.

Naomi Anthony, who worked as a nurse contractor at the jail, was arrested Wednesday as she arrived for work. The investigation began after jail officials discovered information suggesting misconduct involving Anthony and an inmate housed at the facility.

According to authorities, a handwritten note found by another staff member detailed allegations of contraband smuggling and an inappropriate relationship between Anthony and an inmate. That discovery prompted investigators to review surveillance footage, which allegedly showed Anthony interacting with inmates in restricted areas in a manner inconsistent with jail protocols.

Sheriff Pat Labat said additional information from an anonymous tip raised concerns that Anthony attempted to bypass security screening measures and used an unauthorized cellphone to communicate with the inmate. When confronted, investigators say Anthony initially attempted to conceal the phone but later admitted to the relationship, which she said began in October.

Jail records indicate Anthony was charged with providing unauthorized items to an inmate. She was taken into custody and remains in the Fulton County Jail.

NaphCare, the private healthcare company contracted to provide medical staff at the jail, confirmed that Anthony’s employment was terminated and emphasized its zero-tolerance policy regarding staff fraternization and contraband.

Officials say the case underscores the importance of strict oversight and adherence to security protocols to protect the safety and integrity of correctional facilities.
