Canton, Ga. — Georgia State Representative Mandi Ballinger passed away Sunday following a long and courageous battle with cancer, House Speaker Jon Burns announced.
Ballinger was serving her fourth term representing District 23 in the Georgia House of Representatives, where she also chaired the Judiciary Juvenile Committee.
“For over a decade, Chairlady Ballinger served our state and her community with unwavering resilience and the utmost dedication,” Burns said in a statement. “Her commitment to advocating on behalf of the most vulnerable among us, including children and survivors of domestic violence, has certainly left an indelible mark on countless lives across the entire state of Georgia. While her leadership and impact extended far beyond the walls of the Capitol, Chairlady Ballinger will be greatly missed by each of us who had the profound honor of serving alongside her, and all those who knew and loved her.”
Ballinger began her career in the nonprofit sector, working in a domestic violence shelter before joining a district attorney’s office as a Victim Advocate. She later returned to the nonprofit arena, serving as the founding director of a Child Advocacy Center, championing the welfare of children and families in Georgia.
Governor Brian P. Kemp and other state leaders shared condolences on social media, recognizing Ballinger’s lifelong dedication to public service and community advocacy.
Burns asked that everyone keep Ballinger’s husband, State Court Judge Allen Morris, their son, Henry, family, and loved ones in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
