Drug Take Back Day happening this week in South Cobb

Share

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, April 22. On this day, citizens can drop off medications and unused and expired prescription drugs in an effort to remove these medicines from public access.

Pointing to the drug overdose epidemic in the United States as a clear and present public health, public safety, and national security threat, the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day reflects DEA’s commitment to Americans’ safety and health, encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.

The website says that since the initiative started in 2010, nearly 16 million pounds of “unneeded prescription medications” have been collected. Communities across the U.S. collected more than 720,000 pounds of medication in April 2022 and 647,000 pounds last October.

Local police departments in Cobb accepting unused medications for this year’s event include Cobb County Police Department, 545 Fairgrounds St. SE, Marietta; and Kennesaw State University Police Department’s main visitor parking lot VB, 295.

Keep Cobb Beautiful is also hosting a takeback day in South Cobb at C. Freeman Poole Senior Center, 4025 South Hurt Rd, NW, Smyrna on April 22, 2023 (10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.).
