“Mass Backlash” Disney Hit With $3.8 Billion Loss over Jimmy Kimmel Suspension

Cancellations Continue to Mount

Disney is facing major backlash and billions in reported market losses after suspending late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, fueling a fast-growing boycott against the entertainment giant.

The call for a boycott came after ABC, which Disney owns, indefinitely suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! over comments Kimmel made about conservative commentator Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

Those angered by Disney-owned ABC’s decision to take Kimmel off the air are turning to a new pressure point: canceling their streaming subscriptions. Google searches for “cancel Disney Plus” and “cancel Hulu” have spiked in the days since the suspension. Calls for a boycott have spread rapidly across social media — and some subscribers told Business Insider they are “putting their money where their mouth is.”

According to news sources, Disney’s market value fell by an estimated $3.87 billion overnight, with shares sliding about 3% in five days.

Prominent voices have amplified the movement. Actress Tatiana Maslany (She-Hulk) urged fans to cancel subscriptions, actor Misha Collins said he had already dropped Disney+, and Star Trek actor Wil Wheaton called for a nationwide “day of cancellations.” Writer Wajahat Ali urged Disney and ABC employees to stage a walkout, saying: “Corporations love money more than anything, & this will really harm them and force them to do the right thing.”

Former GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger accused Disney of caving to political intimidation, writing: “When government intimidation and corporate cowardice meet, free speech dies. Boycott ABC and Disney until they stand up to Brendan Carr’s censorship.”

With nearly a quarter of ABC affiliates refusing to air Kimmel’s show and comparisons to Target’s $12.4 billion boycott-driven losses earlier this year, Disney’s leadership now faces pressure on two fronts: reputational damage and a growing financial hit.
