Delta Community Credit Union, in partnership with V-103, is thrilled to announce the first three recipients of its 2024 HBCU Scholarship Award. This scholarship provides financial assistance to students attending or planning to attend Historically Black Colleges and Universities. After reviewing over 700 applications, the most since the program’s inception in 2015, the following students were selected to receive $5,000 each:
- Jordan Caldwell: A senior at Clark Atlanta University majoring in art. A 2020 graduate of Pebblebrook High School in Mableton, Caldwell aspires to become an illustrator and the first female Black animated film director. She maintains a 3.8 GPA, is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, and coordinates mentoring events for local high school students through the Collegiate 100 organization.
- Sydney Catron: An incoming freshman at Spelman College, where she plans to major in biology/pre-med with a minor in Spanish. A 2024 graduate of Mount Paran Christian School in Kennesaw, Catron aims to become an obstetrician/gynecologist to serve overlooked and underrepresented communities. She has a 4.1 GPA and completed an internship with Kennesaw Gynecology.
- Amir Rowser: A recent graduate of South Atlanta High School in Atlanta. He will begin his college education at Fort Valley State University in the fall as a junior, thanks to dual enrollment credits. Rowser is an advocate for financial literacy and co-chair of the Dukes Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on youth mentoring. He has accumulated over 200 hours of community service and holds a 4.0 GPA.
The Delta Community and V-103 2024 HBCU Scholarship Program will award a total of five $5,000 scholarships this year, one more than last year. The final two recipients will be announced in November following another application period.
“It is an honor to support students who are dedicated to their personal education and the well-being of their local communities,” said Hank Halter, Delta Community’s CEO. “Our scholarship programs are part of Delta Community’s commitment to good corporate citizenship, and we are pleased to increase the number of awards we are extending this year given so many deserving applicants.”
“We are extremely proud of each student and their accomplishments,” added V-103 radio host Big Tigger. “We are thrilled to see the program thriving because we love supporting intelligent, community-minded individuals like Jordan, Sydney, and Amir. We are confident they will continue to make a positive difference through their volunteerism and professional pursuits.”
Students can apply for the next scholarship period beginning August 1.
