Cupid and Cobb Commission unable to walk and chew gum at the same time

Share

A funny thing happened on the way to the recent affordable housing meeting. Cobb officials did not show up. While Fulton, Gwinnett, and Clayton sat around the table to discuss this all-important issue at the Atlanta Regional Housing Authority (led by Bill Bolling) session on Affordable Housing, Cobb was again asleep at the wheel and not in the room.

A report of what every major surrounding county in this region is doing to address the issue was given but not from Cobb. The accomplishments, commitment, vision, research, and understanding of the moment in time relating to such a critical issue in the region that was touted in the meeting made citizens from Cobb green with envy and left them wondering what is going on with Cobb’s Chair and the commission.

To make matters worse, one of Chair Lisa Cupid’s community minions foolishly decided to send an email around to affordable housing community advocates directing them to back up and lay off the commissioners. The exact words were, “refrain from pressing Cobb’s Chair and Cobb’s BOC & man on any issue but “defeating cityhood.”

Who is this guy was my first response? The other was…Man, are you kidding?

First, Chair Cupid and the board were elected to do a job. Using taxpayer dollars to chase down citizens and block their path to cityhood was not one of them. Cupid’s failure to be prepared for critical meetings like neighboring counties is not the fault of the people, it is the fault of the Chair and the commissioners. As one advocate who attended the meeting put it, it was clear from today’s forum that the elected presenters can manage more than one issue at a time for the sake and betterment of their constituents. We should be so lucky! Another citizen pointed out that it is not our fault that Cupid and company chose to shield themselves via Zoom meetings, thus eliminating the ability to be in front of the people live and in-person to hear our issues.

Likewise, who died and made this guy chief to direct citizens not to burden their commissioners for five weeks. Cupid and company should be able to walk and chew gum at the same time. They presented themselves during elections that they had the skills and capability to do more than just talk a good game. Why ask for a reprieve now and why send a minion to do the asking? If they are overtasked and want a reprieve, resign from office and let someone else do the job. Don’t ask citizens to refrain from wanting you to show up and do your jobs. An important tip in all of this for Cupid is to learn how to walk and chew gum at the same time. The county and its citizens cannot wait five minutes let alone five months for you to do the job you are paid to do on a daily basis.
