Convicted Killer Mistakenly Released in Florida, Found at Georgia City Council Member’s Home

TAYLOR COUNTY, Ga. — A convicted murderer who was accidentally released from a Miami jail has been taken back into custody after being located in Georgia.

James Daniels, convicted of kidnapping, torturing, and killing two men five years ago, was mistakenly released from Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami last week.

U.S. Marshals tracked Daniels to Reynolds, Georgia, where he was found at the home of Timishea Price, a Reynolds city council member. Price was arrested on charges of felony hindering the apprehension of a criminal and later released on a $5,000 bond. Her involvement remains under investigation.

A neighbor, Ruby Wilder, described the scene:
“I see all the police trucks and things with the lights on it, and I told my brother, there’s something going on.”

Florida’s Department of Corrections reportedly took a full day to notify U.S. Marshals about the mistaken release. Reynolds Police Chief Lonnie Holder said the marshals called with Daniels’ location, prompting the arrest at Price’s home.

Authorities continue to investigate how Daniels ended up at the council member’s residence and whether anyone assisted in concealing him.

Taylor County, Georgia is just over two hours south of Metro Atlanta.
