ACWORTH, Ga. — A former Cobb County postal employee has been charged with stealing gift cards from residents’ mail, authorities report. Isis Hinson, 26, is accused of taking gift cards from greeting cards between October and December 2025 while employed at the U.S. Postal Service branch at 1395 East Cobb Drive.
The case stems from a joint investigation by the Cobb County Police Department and the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General (USPS-OIG). According to Sgt. Eric Smith, a letter carrier reported discovering multiple opened greeting cards in a cluster box in Acworth on October 29. The cards had not yet been postmarked, raising concerns of internal theft.
Postal inspectors traced the recovered items to Hinson, who lived nearby. Further investigation confirmed that Hinson had been taking mail from the post office and using enclosed gift cards for personal gain. Authorities recovered additional stolen mail, and Hinson resigned from his position at the post office. Hinson now faces charges of theft by taking and possession of stolen mail.
“The USPS-OIG takes allegations of mail theft seriously and is committed to maintaining the integrity of the U.S. Mail system,” Sgt. Smith said. “The public is reminded to exercise caution when sending cash or items of monetary value through the mail, especially during the holiday season.”
Residents who believe they may have been victims of mail theft are encouraged to contact the USPS-OIG Complaint Line at 888-877-7644.
