Cobb jail inmate cell search turns up homemade shank

Share

Jalen Gregory, a 25-year-old man from Jonesboro, was charged with possessing a sharpened metal shank while being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

The arrest warrant, issued by the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, alleges that Gregory had a homemade knife approximately seven inches long, which was discovered during a cell search on July 25 at the Cobb jail.

Gregory admitted to owning the weapon, which was found among his personal belongings underneath his mattress. Possessing such items is prohibited for inmates.

Gregory was already in custody at the detention center for other charges before this incident. As a result of the new charge, he remains in custody without the possibility of posting bond.

Additionally, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office has placed a hold on Gregory, indicating that there may be other pending issues or charges in that jurisdiction.
