As we enter a new month in 2025, Cobb County Water System reports the latest on sewer overflows across Cobb County which resulted in wastewater discharge into a local waterway.
The Cobb County Water System reported an estimated 1,200 gallon wastewater sewer overflow occurred on Jan. 28. The overflow, resulting from rags, occurred at 1677 Buckner Road in Mableton, and discharged into Nickajack Creek. The Water System was notified of the overflow on Jan. 28 at 11:20 a.m. and the overflow was stopped on Jan. 28 at noon.
Dispatch received a call for 1691 Buckner Road in Mableton. Upon arrival, the crew observed a manhole spilling without a secured lid. The escaping sewage left a 15-foot by 15-foot area around the manhole and a two-foot trail entering the creek. After using a jet machine and a bypass pump to unstop the sewer line, the crew cleaned up solids and spread lime on the affected area. During their time on-site, no fish kills were observed.
