Austell man arrested in shooting death of Mableton man

Police have arrested Tyrone Gantt, 44, of Austell, and charged him with the murder of Howard Smith, 42, after Smith was found dead in Mableton Tuesday morning, near the SAW School. 

Cobb County police say, Smith, of Mableton, was killed by a gunshot wound to the head. Police confirmed that Gantt was with Smith Monday night. Smith was found dead, lying in the road at Mableton Parkway and Bonanza Trail, just after 3 a.m. 

Police charged Gantt with murder and aggravated assault and have not identified the other person who was with the two.

Concerned citizens in the area want to know more after learning that public safety records are tracking this as the second murder victim in South Cobb this year.
