Annual Wild Hog Supper Kicks Off Georgia Legislative Session

Georgia lawmakers, agriculture leaders, and lobbyists gathered Sunday at the Georgia Railroad Depot for the annual Wild Hog Supper, a time-honored event that unofficially kicks off the state’s legislative session. Over a thousand attendees indulged in tradition, enjoying food and drink before the hard work of tackling pressing policy issues begins. As they prepare to be sworn in on Monday, lawmakers are gearing up to address matters ranging from storm damage to tax relief and inflation—decisions that could impact families across Georgia.

Speakers included Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper, who highlighted the significant economic toll recent storms have taken on the state’s farming industry. Senate Majority Leader Steve Gooch discussed potential legislative actions and funding aimed at aiding recovery efforts. Senate Minority Leader Harold Jones underscored the urgency of addressing the storm’s aftermath, while also stressing the need to focus on other pressing issues.

Gooch and Jones expressed confidence that there would be bipartisan support for recovery efforts and efforts to address the state’s ongoing challenges.

The Georgia General Assembly will officially begin its three-month session at 10 a.m. on Monday, with many critical legislative matters ahead.
