Angie Stone’s Children File Wrongful Death Lawsuit Following Tragic Highway Crash

Share

The children of late R&B legend Angie Stone have filed a wrongful death lawsuitagainst a trucking company, truck manufacturer, and others, following a fatal Alabama interstate crash in March. The suit was filed in Gwinnett County, Georgia, by Stone’s children, Diamond Stone and Michael D’Angelo Archer, who she shared with fellow R&B singer D’Angelo, alongside Sheila Hopkins, who was injured in the accident.

According to court documents, Stone and her entourage were traveling home after a performance in Mobile, Alabama, when the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van lost control and flipped. While Good Samaritans rescued five of the nine passengers, Stone was still inside the vehicle when an 18-wheeler hauling sugar collided with the van, ejecting her and pinning her underneath. The lawsuit claims the truck driver was distracted, listening to music with headphones, failed to brake, and that the tractor-trailer’s collision mitigation system malfunctioned.

The lawsuit alleges that Stone suffered “conscious suffering” before passing away at age 63.

Stone, a three-time Grammy nominee, first rose to fame in 1979 as part of pioneering all-female rap group The Sequence. She later became a celebrated solo artist, creating hits including “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” “No More Rain (In This Cloud),”and “Brotha.”Her final studio album, Love Language, was released in May 2023.

Beyond music, Stone contributed to the Girlfriends theme song and appeared in films such as Fighting Temptations and Scary Movie V. She is survived by her children and grandchildren.
