300-unit apartment complex opens in Powder Springs

Share

Powder Springs Mayor Al Thurman, along with other city officials, participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new 300-unit, three-floor apartment complex developed by Selig Enterprises.

This new development, known as Heartwood, is a gated community situated on a 20-acre parcel near the intersection of Brownsville and Oglesby roads, approximately a mile southwest of downtown Powder Springs.

The apartments at Heartwood are offered at varying price points, starting at $1,600 for one-bedroom units, $1,800 for two-bedroom units, and $3,200 for three-bedroom units. Significantly, five percent of the units are earmarked for city employees at a discounted rate.

Selig Enterprises anticipates that residents will begin moving in within the next few weeks, with full occupancy not expected until 2024.

Selig’s Senior Vice President of Development, Greg Lewis, highlighted the unique features of the complex, underscoring the ample outdoor spaces and opportunities for community engagement.

He emphasized that Heartwood offers an extensive amount of green space, hiking trails, and a spacious 9,500 square-foot clubhouse, which sets it apart from typical garden-style apartment complexes. Lewis emphasized that Selig is committed to delivering on its promise of exceptional amenities.

The development is pet-friendly and boasts a wide range of amenities, including a pool, pickleball court, garages, and over 5 acres of green space with access to hiking trails. It also features an indoor/outdoor fitness center and a courtyard with a recreational pavilion.

Mayor Thurman welcomed the development, highlighting its contribution to diversifying housing options in the city. He emphasized that not everyone, particularly young people, aspired to own a house, and that providing such housing options was a significant step toward achieving housing equity for all residents.

Elizabeth Hagin, Selig’s marketing director, echoed Mayor Thurman’s sentiments, noting that there is broad interest in the development, spanning from small families to couples without children, and even empty nesters.

Selig’s aspiration is for Heartwood to become an integral part of the Powder Springs community, and they are particularly proud to have allocated a percentage of the units for city employees.
