Monsanto Settles $2 Billion Roundup Case After Blood Cancer Claims

Share

Monsanto has agreed to a $2 billion settlement in a high-profile case involving a Georgia man who developed blood cancer after more than two decades of regular use of the company’s Roundup herbicide. The plaintiff, who used Roundup consistently for 21 years, alleged that Monsanto was aware of the potential link between glyphosate—the chemical active ingredient in Roundup—and cancer but failed to warn consumers.

According to court filings, Monsanto allegedly prioritized profits over safety, downplaying scientific studies linking glyphosate exposure to cancer risks. The company has faced thousands of lawsuits nationwide from individuals claiming that long-term exposure caused non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and other cancers.

This settlement underscores growing public and legal scrutiny of glyphosate-based products. Experts say that repeated exposure to glyphosate can have serious health consequences, and the litigation reflects ongoing concerns about corporate accountability in chemical safety.

Plaintiffs’ attorneys emphasized that the settlement, while substantial, is also a warning to companies that public health cannot be compromised for financial gain. The amount reflects both damages for medical expenses and suffering as well as punitive considerations meant to hold Monsanto accountable for decades of alleged negligence.

The case adds to an expanding series of Roundup-related legal actions across the country, many of which have resulted in multi-million-dollar verdicts and settlements.
