POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. — The glow of hundreds of candles lit up Powder Springs Park Thursday evening, as neighbors, friends, and family gathered to honor the life of 10-year-old Tucker Sizemore, whose life was cut tragically short in a crash earlier this month.
Tucker, described by those who knew him as funny, kind, and full of energy, had an uncanny ability to brighten any room he entered. “Tucker was such a light,” said neighbor Nikki Nixon. “He had this joy about him that made everyone around him smile.”
The vigil, held just hours after Tucker’s father, Clinton Sizemore, was released from the hospital, was a mixture of grief and healing. Clinton had spent nearly three weeks recovering from multiple injuries sustained in the same crash that ultimately claimed Tucker’s life. Tucker’s sister, Amelia, 13, helped lead the ceremony, lighting candles alongside friends and neighbors. “It was supposed to be a surprise,” she said softly, her voice tinged with both sorrow and pride.
The crash occurred on Oct. 3 along Veterans Memorial Highway when a pickup truck crossed the center line and slammed into the Sizemore family’s minivan. Tucker, Amelia, and their father were inside. Tucker passed away three days later from a traumatic brain injury, while Amelia suffered minor injuries. Clinton endured multiple broken bones and a long hospital stay.
Despite the heartbreak, the vigil offered a moment of hope and unity. Community members spoke of Tucker’s zest for life, his laughter, and the joy he brought to everyone he met. The Sizemore family, while still mourning, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from friends, neighbors, and complete strangers.
A GoFundMe page has been established to help the family with medical expenses, funeral costs, and their ongoing recovery. The response has been swift, reflecting the generosity of the Mableton community. Residents are sharing the page across social media, eager to ease the burden on the family during this devastating time.
The family has not yet announced a date for Tucker’s memorial service, but plans to provide updates on social media. For those looking to support the Sizemore family and honor Tucker’s memory, donations can be made via their GoFundMe page.
In the flickering candlelight, neighbors left with a shared sense of loss — but also of togetherness. Through grief and tragedy, the community has rallied, ensuring that Tucker Sizemore’s light will not be forgotten.
