Gone too soon. Forever loved.
As the parents of young De’Siyah Reed grapple with unimaginable grief, the Mableton and greater Metro Atlanta community also mourn the tragic loss of the 13-year-old, affectionately known as “Turtle.” De’Siyah was shot in the head on Monday, July 21, 2025, near the 1900 block of Padgett Drive in Cobb County. He later succumbed to his injuries, leaving his family devastated and the entire community heartbroken.
De’Siyah was described as a bright, funny, and loving young man who touched the lives of everyone who knew him. His parents say he deserved “more time, more laughter, more life.” Now, as they prepare to lay their son to rest, they are also faced with the unexpected financial burden of funeral and memorial expenses.
To support the Reed family, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched with a fundraising goal of $20,000. As of this writing, just over $6,800 has been raised. The family is hoping to reach their goal within five days in order to cover necessary arrangements and honor De’Siyah’s memory with dignity and love.
This tragedy has shaken Mableton, but it has also highlighted the strength and compassion of its people. Residents, local leaders, and youth advocates have come forward to offer prayers, condolences, and support for the Reed family.
The family is asking for the kindness of your prayers and your continued support through donations and shares of the GoFundMe link to help them reach their goal.
In times like these, it is clear that Mableton is more than just a place—it is a community that comes together in the face of heartbreak. Let’s continue to wrap this family in love, and remind them they are not alone.
