Atlanta, GA – Thousands of vehicles made by Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram are under an urgent “do not drive” warning due to unrepaired defective Takata air bags. The alert, issued in connection with the long-running Takata air bag crisis, affects approximately 225,000 vehicles that still have not received recall repairs. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the defective air bags can explode upon deployment, sending shrapnel into the vehicle cabin.

Impacted Models Include:

  • 2003–2010 Dodge Ram
  • 2004–2009 Dodge Durango
  • 2005–2011 Dodge Dakota
  • 2005–2008 Dodge Magnum
  • 2006–2015 Dodge Charger

  • 2005–2015 Chrysler 300
  • 2007–2016 Jeep Wrangler
  • 2006–2009 Mitsubishi Raider

Federal safety officials are urging owners of these vehicles to stop driving them immediately until the air bag inflator is replaced. Repairs are available free of charge at authorized dealerships.

The Takata recall has been one of the largest automotive safety recalls in U.S. history, affecting tens of millions of vehicles. NHTSA reports that at least 28 people in the United States have been killed and more than 400 injured due to exploding Takata air bags.

Vehicle owners can check their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on NHTSA’s website to determine whether their car is included in the recall and schedule a free repair.
