Cobb Elections Director Leaving After Less Than Two Years

Share

Cobb County’s elections director, Tate Fall, is stepping down after less than two years in the role, county officials confirmed last week.

Fall, who has been on an extended leave of absence for several months, notified the Cobb Board of Elections and Registration in early September that she would not return. Her resignation will take effect at the end of her leave period later this year.

Michael D’Itri, a deputy director in the elections office, has been named acting director and will oversee the department until a permanent replacement is hired.

Fall, previously deputy elections director in Arlington County, Virginia, was appointed to lead Cobb elections in December 2023 following the retirement of longtime director Janine Eveler. Her selection came after the county extended its search due to difficulty finding candidates with sufficient experience. At the time, then-Elections Board Chairwoman Tori Silas praised Fall as “the right person at the right time.”

Her tenure coincided with a turbulent period for the five-member elections board, which has wrestled with disputes over county commission redistricting and, most recently, the election of new board officers following the appointment of two new members. Fall was absent from that meeting, when officials also announced her leave would be extended.

No timeline has been announced for hiring a permanent successor. The decision will rest with the elections board.

As of September 2025, D’Itri remains the acting director, guiding the office through preparations for upcoming elections.
