Mercer University Names Columbus Native Penny L. Elkins as First Female President

Mercer University has announced Penny L. Elkins as its next president, making her the first woman to hold the role in the university’s nearly 200-year history. Elkins, a Columbus, Georgia native and former educator, will take the helm of the Macon-based private institution, ushering in a new era of leadership.
Before assuming this historic role, Elkins built a distinguished career in education, serving as a teacher, administrator, and higher education leader.
