Woman Fatally Stabbed at Cumberland Hotel Where Baby Was Shot Days Earlier

Share

Cobb County police are investigating a deadly stabbing at a Cumberland-area hotel, the same location where a 9-month-old baby was shot and killed earlier this week.

The incident occurred just after midnight Friday at the Budgetel Inn and Suites, located at 4900 Circle 75 Parkway near Windy Hill Road. Officers arrived to find two women suffering from stab wounds.

One victim, Amatrian Hawkins, 45, of Atlanta, had multiple stab wounds and later died after being transported to the hospital. A second victim, Janiyah Jenkins, 19, also of Atlanta, suffered a severe laceration to her hand and is listed in stable condition, according to Cobb Police spokesperson Sgt. Eric Smith.

Detectives with Cobb’s Major Crimes Unit identified Frank Moore, 46, of Atlanta as the suspect. Police say Moore was known to the victims and fled the scene, but was later taken into custody by Atlanta police. He is facing charges of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a knife during the commission of a felony.

The stabbing marks the second violent crime at the Budgetel Inn this week. On Tuesday night, a 9-month-old baby was fatally shot at the same hotel. Four suspects have been arrested in connection with that case.

Residents and business owners in the area expressed shock and concern over the repeated incidents. “It’s scary to think that something like this can happen not just once, but twice, in the same location,” said local resident Tanya Harper. “We need more security and better oversight to make sure people can feel safe in this community.”

Nearby businesses report increased caution among staff and patrons. Many are calling for enhanced lighting, security cameras, and a greater police presence at the hotel to prevent further violence.

Cobb Police emphasized that the stabbing investigation is ongoing and urged anyone with information to contact the Cobb Police Major Crimes Unit at 770-499-3945.

“These incidents are tragic and unacceptable,” Sgt. Smith said. “We are working to ensure accountability for those responsible and to protect the community from further harm.”
