Mableton residents were shaken Tuesday when a fight at Pebblebrook High School in Cobb County escalated into a weapon-related incident, prompting a Code-Red lockdown. Two students, Jesus Arellano Hernandez and Isaac Abraham Morales, both 17, were charged in connection with the altercation after a BB gun was brought to the school, according to the Cobb County School District.
The incident reportedly began around 10:45 a.m. in a school bathroom, where Hernandez and Morales fought. Hernandez allegedly pulled a BB gun from his backpack and struck Morales with it. Morales then took possession of the weapon and continued the fight, according to arrest warrants. Surveillance footage captured the altercation and was later turned over to the district’s Property and Evidence Unit.

While the situation prompted a temporary lockdown, the community was advised that the district acted quickly and effectively. “The safety of the Cobb County School District is our number one priority,” said Cobb School Board member Leroy “Tre” Hutchins.
The two students involved face multiple charges. Morales was charged with possession of a weapon on school property, fighting, obstruction of law enforcement, and possession of a pistol or revolver by a person under 18. Hernandez faces misdemeanor charges for fighting and possession of a pistol or revolver by a person under 18. Both were briefly held in Cobb County Jail.
Residents expressed relief that the school responded decisively but also voiced concerns about ongoing safety. Pebblebrook will soon receive an additional full-time K-9 officer to support its three resource officers, the highest number in the county. Other Vapor Wake dogs will continue to patrol schools across Cobb County and respond based on data-driven assessments of incidents.
For the Pebblebrook community, the incident highlights a broader challenge: students must navigate not only academic pressures but also the very real concern for their personal safety while trying to access a quality education. Parents and residents stress that a secure environment is essential for learning and growth.
“Students deserve to focus on their studies without fearing for their safety,” Hutchins said. “We are taking every step to protect our students and ensure they have the conditions they need to succeed.”
The incident serves as both a reminder of the risks students face and the importance of proactive safety measures. While parents are reassured by the district’s actions, the community continues to watch closely as new safety initiatives, including enhanced K-9 support, are implemented.
