Business Community Election Government - Local Law and Order News

The Invasion of the “GIGANTIC Signs”, is this an attempt by Chair Cupid to hide her mismanagement of Cobb County government?

Share

The news has been abuzz with warnings of the impending invasion of giant cicadas, but there was no warning about another invasion: the onslaught of oversized signs plastered across our community by ineffective elected officials who have been asleep at the wheel, neglecting and abusing taxpayers for the past 3 ½ years.

We all know that these signs conveniently pop up every four years, just in time for the election cycle, aiming to deceive unsuspecting voters into believing that these politicians, many with Incumbent next to their names, have been diligently fulfilling their duties. However, the truth is far from what these signs portray, serving as a veil to conceal their true actions and intentions since the last election.

For the past 3 ½ years, these same politicians have treated Cobb County as their personal kingdom, squandering taxpayer funds and pursuing self-serving agendas. Overnight, their signs – larger than tiny homes – have sprouted up on street corners and rights-of-way, blatantly flouting signage laws without any repercussions from code enforcement. Adding insult to injury, these same officials including Chair Lisa Cupid and others, voted recently to award themselves a staggering $200,000 per office of taxpayer money, totaling a million dollars, with no strings attached and zero transparency. Not withstanding that glaring issue is the fact that citizens can now make their own assumptions on what the recently allotted $200,000 per office to Cupid and other commissioners, without any accountability, is being used for.

This egregious misuse of funds stands in stark contrast to their dismissive attitude towards taxpayers who pleaded for relief from excessive millage last year. And let’s not forget their attempts just a few weeks ago to burden citizens with additional taxes, including a water/sewer tax and a controversial 30 year transportation tax which will equate to $14 billion dollars – that even the sitting Mayors and City Councils of the cities of Cobb find disbelieving.

Now, as we approach another election year, these same politicians, with the word incumbent next to their names, are attempting to present themselves in a favorable light with glamor shot campaign posters, hoping to distract voters from their history of neglect and mismanagement. Chair Lisa Cupid and her allies seem to believe that these towering signs will obscure their financial mismanagement of Cobb government, as well as their poor leadership skills and inability to collaborate with other Commissioners. They hope these giant signs will bury their duplicity, including Cupid’s controversial Home Rule map and the ongoing legal battles it has sparked, along with ongoing legal fees that taxpayers are paying. Cupid and company are under the impression that the giant signs will block the voters from seeing what they have been doing to Cobb government, which is running it into the ground.

But as the Primary Election day approaches on May 21, with early voting starting on April 29, let’s make one thing clear to these politicians hiding behind their big signs: We see through your distractions. It’s time for you and your glossy signs to hit the road.
