The Center for Family Resources in Cobb County, the nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting and providing resources for those facing homelessness, has announced the grand opening of its updated food pantry, the “Family Cupboard Choice Pantry.”
The Family Cupboard Choice Pantry offers a unique and empowering experience for families in need. Modeled after a regular grocery shopping experience, this choice pantry allows families to select their own food items. Each food item is assigned a specific number of points, and families receive a points budget, giving them the flexibility to make choices based on their preferences and dietary needs.
In contrast to conventional food pantries where visitors often receive pre-packed meals, the Family Cupboard Choice Pantry introduces a personalized and dignified approach to food assistance. Accompanied by dedicated organization volunteers, each shopper is provided with valuable nutrition information and practical shopping techniques to make informed choices.
Key Features of the Family Cupboard Choice Pantry:
- Families can choose their own food items, similar to regular grocery shopping.
- Each food item is assigned points, and families receive a points budget.
- Volunteers provide nutrition information and share shopping techniques.
Important Details:
- The pantry operates four days a week.
- Access to the pantry is available by appointment only.
This innovative approach not only ensures that families have access to essential food items but also promotes a sense of autonomy and dignity in the process.
