Teacher faces child porn charges in Forsyth

Share

A Forsyth County elementary school teacher and high school volleyball coach, Andrew “Drew” Cecil of Cumming, has been arrested on multiple charges related to the sexual exploitation of children, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officials say Cecil, 38, has been under investigation since April 14, when investigators got a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about online sexual exploitation of a child involving a teacher. Considered time-sensitive, the high-priority tip led to Cecil being removed from the classroom during the investigation.

The school district confirmed that since 2021, Cecil was a fourth grade teacher at Poole’s Mill Elementary School and coached volleyball at North Forsyth High from 2016 to 2021.

After detectives secured nine arrest warrants against Cecil for possession of child pornography and one for sexual exploitation of children, officials say he was fired.

The sheriff’s office says their investigation remains open and confirmed that children from the Forsyth County School District were not involved in their investigation.

The school district said, “Our staff will continue to work with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office on this ongoing investigation. If parents/guardians or former students have information relative to these charges, they should contact the sheriff’s office.”

Cecil was arrested and booked into the Forsyth County jail. He was granted a $55,200 bond.
